Wind power
Wind power is currently one of the world's fastest-growing energy sources and the structures that support these turbines are fully exposed to the elements.

They are always located in open situations where they receive the maximum possible exposure to wind and also to sun and weather. Exposure to UV will damage all but the best coating systems and in addition the structures are abraded by wind borne particles. Many wind turbines are located in coastal areas with high corrosion rates, or even out at sea.

Maintenance is expensive and it is advisable to specify a good coating system from the start. Towers and nacelles are generally coated in-shop and systems used must be capable of handling a short painting cycle. The coating system chosen must provide the following:

  • Long-term corrosion protection.
  • Fast dry-to-handle times.
  • Fast overcoating times.
  • Easy maintenance when eventually required.
  • Good appearance.

Below is a selection of Sigma Protective Coatings product ranges that are ideal for use on wind power facilities:

Sigma AquaCover
