Newbuilding - a good start with PPG Marine Coatings
Correct coating choice and application at the newbuilding stage is the easiest and way of ensuring that the coatings applied will provide maximum corrosion protection, thus improving the vessel's efficiency and helping to reduce on-board maintenance costs.

The building of a new vessel involves a large investment for the owner and is a labour-intensive process for the shipyard. Coatings form a relatively small part of the total vessel cost, yet they are a key factor in subsequent asset protection, safe operation and maximising revenues when the vessel is in service.

PPG Marine Coatings offers a unique range for newbuilding, designed to cope with the most demanding service conditions whilst at the same time being designed to allow efficient application in today's newbuilding shipyards. These coating systems provide both productivity benefits for the shipyard and superior performance for the owner.

This range includes some unique shipyard productivity enhancing primers:

SigmaPrime – The primers designed for shipyards with wide-ranging climatic conditions; can be applied to virtually and universally any part of the vessel  and topcoated with almost any coating.

SigmaWeld – Classification Society approved inorganic zinc shop primers designed to maximize automatic welding speed and minimize welding defects and burn damage; good anticorrosive properties.

Below is a selection of Marine Coatings Systems recommended for use at the newbuilding stage:
