WATER BALLAST TANK

NOTE: If the language you have selected is not available, English (UK) will be used.

Water ballast tanks form a large portion of the structure of a vessel and, due to limited accessibility, are difficult to be inspected regularly.

Because operating conditions involve ballasting with both warm and cold seawater, and wet and dry cycling, they are always liable to severe corrosion. The condition of the ballast tanks also determines the service life of the vessel.

The severity of corrosion in water ballast tanks and the high numbers of ship losses due to structural failure following corrosion damage have increased the attention that classification societies and other regulatory bodies pay to water ballast tank coating conditions.

The correct choice of water ballast tank coating at both new-building and maintenance stages can have a significant impact on the structural integrity of the vessel and its operational profitability.

Within the SIGMA COATINGS® product portfolio we have suitable products available to maximize the life of your vessel. Our coating systems are also fully approved by the major classification societies.
