In the modern passenger vessel, wall linings cover much of the internal space and the steel behind the linings must be protected. These areas must be coated with systems that are harmless to passengers/crew and that do not cause any form of nuisance to the operation of the vessel/machinery.
Coating systems must provide good corrosion protection, be easy to maintain, minimise surface flame spread and be available in aesthetically pleasing colours.
Maintenance systems must have low odour so that the areas concerned can be occupied soon after the coating application has been completed.
