Cargo Hold
For many bulk carriers the condition of the cargo holds affects both the earning capacity of the vessel (e.g. the ability to accept a cargo or the time spent maintaining/cleaning) and the structural integrity of the vessel.

The cargo hold is subjected to extreme conditions during service, ranging from mechanical damage caused by cargo loading/discharge operations to chemical attack from aggressive cargoes and high temperatures from cargoes that are loaded hot or that may themselves generate heat.

Sometimes coating maintenance is difficult or impossible when the vessel is in service. Thus the careful choice of a cargo hold coating can have a bearing on the safety and profitability of the vessel.

PPG Marine Coatings has a range of cargo hold coatings that are tailored to meet the varied operational requirements of the modern dry bulk industry.

SigmaShield 1200 - solvent free phenolic epoxy with excellent impact and abrasion resistance; applicable by single feed airless spray.

SigmaCover 350 – surface tolerant abrasion resistant epoxy; ideal for cargo holds; easy to clean between cargoes; certified for carriage of dry foodstuffs.

Below is a selection of SigmaKalon Marine Coatings product ranges designed for protecting cargo holds:
